Dancing away a Thursday night with the great Osei Korankye from Ghana. James Simons sculpture studio Gist Street.
"Osei is a master musician, which is to say he has dedicated his life to a musical form and achieved a level of expression revered by his peers. His primary instrument is the seperewa, a double-course Akan harp related to the kora and the donso ngoni (hunter’s harp) of the Western Sahel. Unlike the kora, the seperewa has largely fallen out of use over the past century due to the popularity of the guitar, one of many European instruments that came to the coast through colonial contact".
