James Simon has been sculpting for over twenty years, and his work can be found worldwide. His sculptures speak to a diverse population and range from small desktop pieces to large public art commissions. He works in a variety of mediums, including ceramic, concrete, bronze, and mosaic.

2009 TWO LARGE DOGS -a Wiener Dog and a Schnauzer in front of Forbes Auto Body on Gist St. in Pittsburgh, Pa Uptown-An “Art On Gist Street Project” Partially funded with Grants from Pittsburgh Partners in The Arts and City Of Pittsburgh-Neighborhoods Needs Program.

2009 BLUE JEANS MOSAIC - 9’x9’- American Eagle Corporate Headquarters-Pgh, Pa

2008 BRADDOCK MOSAIC PARK, Braddock Pa- in collaboration with Allegheny County Department of Economic Development. Designed and created by James Simon with help from the Keys AmeriCorps Braddock Youth Project. The project turns an abandoned lot into a colorful lush mosaic park with a simulated exotic pond out of ceramic and glass tiles, mosaic totem poles, trees and grasses.

2008 BUCKEYE TRUMPET MAN Cleveland, Ohio
Sixteen feet tall with dog in concrete-sight specific installation
A project that turns a parking lot into a beautiful pocket park.
In collaboration with Cleveland Public art and The Buckeye Area Development Corporation (BADC)

2007 WELCOME TO BRADDOCK Braddock Pa.A a 10’x12’ Glass, and ceramic tile mosaics with dog. The greeting sign when you enter the city of Braddock Pa.

2006 UPTOWN RHYTHM Pittsburgh, PA.
10 x 25 foot painted relief sculpture cast in concrete. Installed as part of Duquesne University’s $70 million rebuilding effort in Pittsburgh’s Uptown neighborhood.

2004 INDUSTRIAL MUSICIANS Uniontown, PA.
Two 15-feet sculptures of steel rod with wire mesh skin. Permanently installed as part of the main street revitalization project in downtown Uniontown.

2003 LIBERTY AVENUE MUSICIANS Pittsburgh, PA.
Three 15-foot sculptures of musicians cast in concrete. Installed in downtown Pittsburgh’s historic district as a façade gateway to a new lofts building.

2000 RASPBERRY ISLAND BRONZES St. Paul, MN.
12 life-sized bronze sculptures of musical instruments for the Raspberry Island bandstand. Designed in collaboration with architect and sculptor Siah Armajani and commissioned by the Schubert Club.

1999 PORTRAITS OF BRAZILIAN MUSICIANS AND WRITERS São Paulo, Brazil.
Life-sized ceramic portraits featuring Jose Roberto Aguilar and Jorge Multner. Public commission for Casa das Rosas Museum and Gallery.

1998 NINE FOOT PAGANINI and TRUMPET MAN Eugene, OR.
Larger-than-life ceramic sculptures . Private commission for Dave Bonnie.

OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Part of the Uptown Partners (Community organization) Steering Committee that has teamed up with residents, stakeholders architects, city planners and developers and has created an Uptown community vision draft.
